Evaluation

In the first part of this semester when we were told to make a documentary during which I was the director of my group and I believe I handled myself well and did my best. I think with this project I could only plan so much as the interviews were ever changing and there was so much to shoot around the city. My role was to control the story and the artistic side of the film. When it came to the story I could only control that in the post as the interviewees gave unexpected answers to our questions. I think I could have been more rigorous when it came to the shots on this project but with me as one of the two camera operators it was hard to control both cameras. We crossed over and had our own twist when it came to angles but the cameraman always asked me whether I was happy which helped a lot as I could decide whether to re-shoot. When we filmed the interviews I had full control one of the cameras was static and the other made sure we had cut-aways, which we ended up not using because they were too shaky.

Cinematography was always my favorite part of filming; it is like painting a picture. During the second semester our brief was to make a drama with three or less characters. As I was the camera-woman and was able to have the artistic freedom with the shots and take as many takes as I wanted as every shot could be crafted this was very different to documentary we had more time and everything was less rushed. We filmed in one room instead of doing it across one city. My storyboard I have prepared prior to the shoot even though it was not looked at helped me visualize what I wanted to achieve with each shot.

On to Post- Production, Am I happy with my cinematography.

Overall I am happy with the outcome.

Here are a few shots of mine that I am the most proud of.

I haven't colour graded them. The ISO never went over 800 as the image becomes grainy and the aperture was at 50 at all times. The F stop changed due to the light change. This kept the shots in the same colour range and the same exposure.

Day 2 - 10th April

Arrived at 10.15 due to the taxi being delayed at the same time as the actor.

Took 10 mins to set up

Day One

Arrived at 10 am. We have been able to arrive 15 minutes prior to our actor Jonathan.  This has enabled us to set up the equipment and go to the woods to film the outside scene, as the weather was very promising.

We spent with the 15 min walk about 90minutes doing the shoot outside. When we got back the rest of the crew was ready with the equipment
