Cinematography - Director of Photography

I will be the cinematographer for the duration of this project. I love art and expression and cinematography I believe is very artistic and with it you can express a lot with the shots you have and the way you put them together and the way you film them. Everything has meaning whether it is obvious or it is hidden.

My role will be essential to making this film, I will be in charge of filming every shot that is on the script, the lighting, and the equipment as well as the continuity and if very shot is what I want it to be. I have been very interested in cameras since a very young age and I do take my role very seriously. I hope that the director will listen to what I suggest and will allow me to have a creative freedom with shots and light. I like to experiment and have fun with what I film because I find that when you have fun and enjoy what you do the results are always better.

''Cinematography is the art or science of motion picture photography. It is the technique of movie photography, including both the shooting and development of the film. The cinematographer could also be referred to as the film director's main visual collaborator.''

I will be working closely with the director to create beautiful visuals that will create and help the story.

The End of an Era

This documentary aims to find out whether the development in Liverpool is benefiting everyone and not just the citizens living in the city centre. The documentary focuses on an art exhibition at the Tate Liverpool gallery that encourages young people living in deprived areas to express themselves through art. The artwork created displays social issues that the artists face in the places they live. The documentary uncovers whether the social issues are being dealt with or not.

This has been a learning curve for me and I am very proud of my team.

Last Touches

Today we are putting the final loving touches on the film, making the last colour corrections, making sure the sound is all levelled as I believe the sound really makes the movie stand out or it can make it look very unprofessional. Abi and Jake were editing together although Jake more so then Abi as she didn't know how to use the software which is not her fault, there was not enough time to put this film back frame by frame on Final cut which is why we had to do it like this.
I was there with them for about 2-3 hours, a few of the cut-aways from Norris Green section needed to be changed as they seemed too shaky and we have writing in between the different sections to explain to viewers some of the details we were not able to put into the voice over.
Now all we have left is to export this file and put it on a disk by tomorrow.

What will happen next - rough cut

Jake has continued editing during the night and has came up with a 5 minute rough cut which was two days a most from finishing. I was very happy about the way it looked like then only a few things needed changing. The order went from Joann to Barry to Joann and Barry with an uplifting ending. This was how we have drawn it but we are still playing with the idea of Barry going first and last to make a full circle.

From now on I will be with the editor (whoever it may be) everyday they edit as I have done so far. This enables them to understand my vision for the film and allows me to think creatively and think of different ways of presenting this film but also gives me a great ability to understand how editor/director relationship works. On Monday and Tuesday we will be colour correcting and making final touches such as checking if the cut-aways are in the right place and order and fit with the voice over along with the main voice over, hoping to make the audience understand and deliver a clear message.
